Chicken pox vaccination

I'm interested to vaccinate my young children against chicken pox. Has anyone had this done for children and how have you found it in terms of side effects? Thanks

Son has had both jabs. Absolutely no side effects.
My 14 month old is having the second jab a week on Monday. No sides effects thus far.

WreckTangled · 16/10/2021 14:03

Both my dc have had it, albeit a good 5 years ago now. I don't recall any side effects at all.

avocadotofu · 16/10/2021 14:28

My son had both jabs and he was absolutely fine.

Twizbe · 16/10/2021 14:29

Both mine have had the jab and all fine no issues.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 16/10/2021 14:36

Both mine jabbed, no side effects. Totally worth it when you see how serious CP can be for some kids.

Spainintherain · 16/10/2021 14:40

Thank you. I was told we would have to avoid immuno compromised people in our family in the six weeks after each jab or they could pass chicken pox to them even if the other people have had chicken pox before? This will be hard in my family.

We had no issues with side effects. Ours was done during lockdown though so we couldn’t see anyone anyway!

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 16/10/2021 14:44

Both my kids are vaccinated and I’m very grateful. Zero side effects.
Also no warnings about immunocompromised contacts when they had it done, which makes me wonder how high the risk is.
Of course, if you don’t have it done you will have a permanent risk of passing on chickenpox.

EmmaOvary · 16/10/2021 16:59

DS had both jabs, no side effects, not even sore arm or fever.

bobsholi · 16/10/2021 17:05

DCs have had the vaccine and all been fine. They said it didn't even hurt having it done.

mynameiscalypso · 16/10/2021 17:14

We had them. I'm on immunosuppressants and wasn't given any kind of warnings about it (and didn't catch CP!)

eurochick · 16/10/2021 18:08

My daughter had it. No side effects but she did have them with some of her baby jabs and the MMR.

loumoo · 16/10/2021 18:13

My DD has leukaemia and my baby had it when elder daughter was first diagnosed. Baby had no side effects but, yes, had to stay away from immunocompromised people for 6 weeks. My daughter was in hospital for these periods. Chicken pox and Leukaemia don't mix well and we were told occasionally a few spots can appear after the vaccine.

It is a live attenuated vaccine so the Green Book says “Transmission of vaccine virus from immunocompetent vaccinees to susceptible close contacts has occasionally been documented but the risk is very low. Transmission in the absence of a post-vaccination rash has not been documented”. If you want more info link is assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/456562/Green_Book_Chapter_34_v3_0.pdf

It sounds low risk, but would depend on severity of immune suppression that your family members have

Spainintherain · 16/10/2021 22:30

Thank you so much for finding the link. I remember the pharmacist saying something about a rash but forgot what it was

No problem - green book is usually great for all vaccine stuff
