Throat infection in toddler- how long until the fever disappears?

Hello,

My little one is on penicillin for strep throat. She had a raging temp for 2 days until the hospital said she has a throat infection and put her on these. She has been on them one day so far but last night seemed far worse. She’s happy again this morning but she had a bad temperature in the night. She’s still drinking milk but not eating and still dancing around in the day happy etc. It’s the evening she seems to go downhill. She also keeps getting slightly mottled skin when her temperature changes that comes and goes- should I be concerned about this? She had it last night then after her bath and some milk it basically disappeared and was up a little again this morning on and off.

DS had one when he was 5 or 6 and it lasted 2 weeks. The fever dropped a few days into the antibiotics though.

Her temp was 36.7 this morning I gave her milk and neurofen at 5am so that’s probably brought it down again and she’s playing as normal dancing around to her songs etc. Her breathing was fast in the evening until I gave her neurofen too- so hoping that was just caused by the temperature as it went back down when I opened windows and gave neurofen ?

@SockFluffInTheBath thanks can I ask if they gave you 2 weeks antibiotics or did you have to request more ? We have been given 7 days

Bad mother and didn’t realise how bad it was, took him to the gp when it hadn’t gone after a week Sad so only one week of antibiotics. Once they kicked it they really shifted it.

@SockFluffInTheBath thanks I ended up going to A&E because her temp was so high but no other symptoms (doctor sent us) That’s when they found it but only prescribed a weeks course. She doesn’t seem any better from it yet just the same as before still getting temperatures and her wee STINKS from the penicillin. They did urine tests there hoping that it’s not that either. Worrying like crazy!

@Annie88xx it’s our job to worry! It takes a couple of days ime she should be starting to get better by Monday.

@SockFluffInTheBath yeah that’s true! Fingers crossed. 111 doctor told me antibiotics shouldn’t make her wee smell so I might end up back there if it doesn’t improve along with the temperature!
