Hi everyone. Really desperate for some advice.

My two years old (26 months) molars we’re cutting through two weeks ago and he was clingy at times and off his food, but was playful and mostly happy.

Then on Monday he woke up with a cough and would cough quite hard causing him to throw up. This happened about 2-3 in 24 hours and he was back to himself on Tuesday. I ended up coming down with something on Tuesday, running nose, achy bones and nauseous (I was sick a few times too). First time I’ve been unwell in 2 years and lasted 3 days. Yesterday morning I woke up feeling much better but it appears ds cough returned.

It sounds like a dry cough and at times I can hear mucus and he ends up coughing hard that he’s sick. He does not have a temperature and has no appetite. He is drinking and has had wet nappies. But he is very tired.

Yesterday evening he slept around 5pm (usually bedtime is 7:30). He slept with the occasional coughing or needing settling but woke up around 6am this morning. He was quite upset this morning and drank lots of warm water. But he coughed and gagged and threw up twice. He is really tired and I think exhausted from throwing up and is now asleep again. When he is awake, he just wants to be carried upright and not interested in playing.

He’s been asleep for the past hour or so, he’s not coughing in his sleep for the first time in two days.

I’m just not sure what to do now? Is it ok for him to sleep it off or should I be worried that he is sleeping more than usual. When I was unwell few days ago the little sleep I managed to get was what helped me feel better, so I’m wondering if it’s the same for him. The poor thing has just had a rough two weeks with teething and now this and I’m not sure I’m doing everything right. I just want my smiley happy little boy back 😔

I know it sounds obvious, but I assume you’ve done a PCR test?

But yes, as long and he’s eating and drinking and you can wake him up and he’s alert when awake then just let him sleep it off.

Yes sorry, it’s been negative for us all.

Then you’ve ruled out a worry and are back to a cold Smile

Plenty of fluids. Have you got ice lollies? They will keep his fluids up and help his teeth!

There is something very similar going round in our area. ( Warwickshire).
I'd let him rest and sleep as much as he wants. And plenty of fluids. Warm ones might stay down a bit better.
Poor little thing- he has my symptoms and sympathy.

Get him to do frequent sips of fluid rather than having a big drink, and eat little and often rather than a meal. Hopefully he will be sick less then.

Probably RSV.

Hi @wilderflower it sounds like he has this blasted cold virus that is doing the rounds. It is borderline flu like in the way it outs you on your arse. I have had it on and off for 3 weeks and dd has had the cold and cough bit separately. I have presented exactly as your ds, hacking dry cough til I throw up a whole ton of mucus.

Calpol, vicks vapour plugs, lots of fluid and sleep are the only treatment. I saw my gp as I had sinus pain that felt like someone was hitting my face constantly. It is awful as an adult so can only imagine how awful a 2 year old must feel.
