Hey

I will follow up with GP but my 12 yr old son has just been to the loo and there was quite a bit of red blood on the toilet paper.
He said there was none on the poo.
He said its never happened before.
Didn't hurt to go.
When he wiped again there was a bit more blood.

Of course mind is racing......

It sounds like a fissure. Does he struggle to poo sometimes? That's a common cause. Ask him if he's having a hard time pooing in general.

DS has chronic constipation and he has had fissures before that produce blood like you've described. Definitely get it checked by the GP though just to be safe. In the meantime get him to keep himself really well hydrated and keep a little step or something in the bathroom for him to pop his feet on to whilst he's pooping. Also tell him to try not to strain.
