My 6 week old has diorrea thats lasted for longer than a week he does have a cold and I spoke to my doctor who suggested that i tried adding water between feeds to stop him becoming dehydrated but there hasnt been any change in his stools and noticed today it looked slightly foamy and smelled stronger than usual has anyone else experienced this

Hiya I had this with my LO around the same time. GP wasnt overly worried as still plenty of wet nappies but I would give them a rig in the morning - they may want to do a stool sample or have them checked to be on the safe side x

If it has been going on for a week, I would seek further medical advice. I would call 111 if I were you...I wouldn't go back to the same GP. I dont think the advice your GP gave you in regards to the water between feeds is correct. Your baby is 6 weeks old, they really shouldn't be having anything other than milk...water is nutritionally void and so if their tummy is full with water then they take less milk. If you feel like they need more fluids, offer another small feed. Are they breast or bottle fed? Still taking normal amounts? How many bouts of diarrhoea a day? Does baby otherwise look well?

Water between feeds is something that most doctors advise although you have to be cautious as it can affect feeding.

Hes bottle fed and continuing to take his normal 5 oz every 3 h Though hes been having roughly 6 - 8 loose nappies a day! This is now the 9th day..
The gp did say it is likely down to his cold and as long as hes still having wet nappies (hydrated), theres no blood in stood and he isnt out of character that i dont need to worry though i do feel like its lasting a very long time and worried that its not good for his little belly!
