Reflux and feeding advice

Hi everyone, my LO has just been diagnosed with reflux by a paediatrician and been put on dissolvable omeprazole 10mg once a day and gaviscon 3 times a day. He's 3 months old.

He's bottle fed and we were advised to carry on with 4oz every 3 hours. I told the paedatrician that he gets upset 2 hours after a feed and he said it's because his stomach is empty and so the acid is coming back up. He said to try the dummy or cooled boiled water between feeds, which sometimes works. The omeprazole isn't making a difference to this either.

If I can't console him after those 2 hours/2 and a half, or he doesn't settle for a nap, I give him 4oz again. He always finishes it. He's over 7kg and on the higher percentile for his age.

As he is still getting upset 2 hours after, could that be because he needs a higher mg of omeprazole? Or should I just be giving him another feed after 2 hours? I don't want to overfeed him and make the reflux worse. Just not sure what to do for the best for him!

I've got another doctors appointment next week to discuss, but the paedatrician isn't booked in until January!!

Sorry for long post, just hoping someone has been through similar and has some advice!

Our Dr advised splitting the omeprazol dose so our child was getting it three times a day. It made a huge difference. It was the same dosage but just spread out. A new tablet dissolved each time and the dose drawn up from that

I should have said I’m sorry you’re going through this. It’s really tough. It does get better!
