Rotavirus vaccine and diarrhoea

Hello

I'm a first time mum and my 15+6 wk old son had his 2nd lot of immunisations almost 3 weeks ago. Since then he's had light green diarrhoea every day. Thankfully he's not poorly.

A stool sample was dropped off at the GP surgery at the end of the 2nd week and thankfully that has come back normal.

Some of his nappies look mucus-y and some are very watery and leak right through his clothes. I believe it's the oral Rotavirus vaccine that has caused his diarrhoea.

Has anyone else experienced this before? How long should I expect this to last? He's exclusively breastfed and I'm worried he'll lose weight.

Many thanks

Hello there, how long did the diarrhoea last for your little one? My boy had his 2nd dose of rotavirus vaccine 2 weeks ago and still has runny poo. Many thanks

See if you can get probiotics for babies that age. Once they have diarrhoea for a few days it flushes out all the good bacteria and the cycle of loose poos just drags on. Building up the good bacteria can bring things back to normal if there's nothing else medically going on. Good luck.

Hello!

Unfortunately his diarrhoea lasted for just under 5 weeks! It was awful. I spoke to the GP over the phone a couple of times and took baby in for a physical check up. The GP referred him for a blood test at a hospital but I ended up cancelling because by then his diarrhoea had come to an end, thank God!

All the best with your little one

Thank you both. KHR1606, did it last 5 weeks after 2nd dose? Runny poo lasted about 3 weeks after his first vaccine and then started again after his 2nd lot so kinda makes sense. I thought it was just my boy but looks like other people have had similar experience too

Mumsir,

Yes, he was completely fine after his 1st dose, no diarrhoea whatsoever. The diarrhoea started the day after his 2nd dose was given.
