Scar - dermatologist or plastic surgeon?

My DC has a scar on their face from a fall a few years ago. At the beginning of this year, DC developed what looks like a large spot on it - it's white and raised.

I asked the GP to look at it, who said it's harmless and should go away in time, but it wouldn't be removed on the NHS.

Anyway DC is increasingly self conscious about it, being a teenager, and I am going to pay privately to see if it can be removed. But who would do this - dermatology or plastic surgeon? Don't want to pay for an expensive appointment to find it is the wrong consultant.

Plastic surgeon.

Have you rang around private hospitals?
Have you used a private hospital before?
I would recommend ringing a couple and also getting some recommendations and prices too.
Our wait for a dermatologist this year has been a lot longer than previous years. This is for a different thing from what you are asking but the good ones may have a long waiting list.

I also think plastic surgeon if it's harmless. A dermatologist is more for treating skin conditions.

Plastics.

Most complex scar management and as near as makes little difference all complex scar revision is plastics territory.

Thanks that seems definitive and makes sense. I just phoned the nearest private hospital who do have a paediatric plastic surgeon, but they require a gp referral so I hope my GP will do this.

I’m having to see a plastic surgeon to deal with the botched scar that the dermatologist left me with.
