There is a particular problem with viruses and young babies /toddlers . I heard a very worrying interview with a paediatrician on Radio4 inside health a few weeks ago. Talking about little ones having been kept in super clean environments for most of last year with little socialisation and extremely clean homes.. with all the anti-Covid measures . That they had failed to develop their immune systems as they normally would ... and going to nursery just means they get overwhelmed. Think the biggest problem and upsurge is with something called RVS or RV ... will search for the link.

Any kid just starting nursery usually catches everything going, I expect they’ll be ill on & off for the next 4 weeks until their immune system develops.
The only advice I give new parents is if using a child care setting book them in 1 day a week 6 weeks before the end of mat leave.

Im with you on this . We took him instantly to toddler groups the moment they reopened and to the playground from time to time, exactly for this reason @Finknottlesnewt . When theyre little they need to be exposed to whatever..cause then they'll have no immunity at all... was indeed well all during lockdown and the moment started seeing kids colds flu vomits one after the other..but i know thats good in the long term

@Burntfingerz it wasn't that bad. He is fine. Was only vomiting for a day each time and will have some better resistance for next time.
Unfortunately there is not much point telling him to wash his hands all the time when he will pick up random toys and chew them.

We had an email from DS’ pre school on Thursday about multiple cases of Norovirus in his room. I’m usually a send him in and let him catch it type mum but due a planned c section in a week so will be keeping him off of until after that as don’t want to risk me catching anything this side of DC2.

Somerandomgirl · 27/09/2021 08:32

@Lostatsea10 yea might be better to do do...god, then the worries with newborn and germy toddler 🙈😅

My kid woke up now...requested bread and juice so i gave him..lets see what happens 😶
My stomach is so sore , hope goes away whatever we caught... makes me think norovirus too..cause already had what not last months

We have had DC off nursery for a week with norovirus. Not only do we pay for it even though she is not there but have to take unpaid leave from work/ annual leave to cover it...I will not be earning anything from work this month in real terms, I could honestly cry.

What does not help is my work are unsympathetic. My manager suggested I could WFH with an ill 2 year old! And no she didn't mean 'WFH'.

Somerandomgirl · 29/09/2021 14:56

@AutumnInBustletown oh my..I'm so sorry, hope she is ok from now on! Your manager is an a...

My daughter started nursery beginning of month shes been off more time than she's been there! Shes had 3 colds, hand foot and mouth and sickness haha. Apparently it gets better as they get an immune system..
