Hello!

Doctor has prescribed my LO who is 6 weeks and 9lb 5oz omeprazole.

Instructions are 1 10mg tablet dissolved into 10ml of water and then he takes 5ml of the solution.

Does this measurement sound about right?

That’s the info for prescribing for a child, I presume it’s been prescribed for reflux, just scroll down to the reflux section and work out the dose per kg.

If I were you though I’d ask them to prescribe the Omeprazole suspension to be made up as a special item, the local chemist send the request to a compounding pharmacy and they make it into a calpol kind of liquid they can also add a flavour to it my DC had raspberry flavour in it to hide the taste. It’s so much easier to get that into her. The tablets taste horrid, and don’t dissolve properly, you’re left with tiny enteric coated balls that block a syringe and it’s really hard to be accurate with the dose.

Make a nuisance of yourself and get the GP to prescribe the ready made suspension. GP’s hate doing it because it’s more expensive, but my goodness it’s so so much easier. Luckily our girls paediatrician prescribed it.
