Noise sensitivity - getting worse

Hello,

I am just wondering whether anyone else has a DC who is super sensitive to noise. DD has always been sensitive to noise but is getting worse. She was premature as a baby and I know it is pretty characteristic of prem children (makes sense). But she is now in Yr7 and struggling with noise at lunch, in class when pair work and with the bell to signal lunch/lesson time etc. It's not just a dislike, it's proper difficulty with the noise. I think this is likely linked to anxiety.

I have spoken to her about it again tonight as she raised it and she wants me to go the GP. I will totally do that but I wondered whether anyone has any experiences to share or strategies that might help her at school please.

Thanks Flowers

Yes mine was. It was a sensory processing issue (coupled with anxiety too) both linked to gut health issues. Wasn't premature but she had a traumatic birth.

Gradually we have improved her gut health and both issues are largely resolved or at least more within the normal range. It took time though. She's 6.

Hi, just wondered if there was any outcome to this?

I appreciate that you wrote this ages ago, but my son is struggling with noise and also anxiety - can I ask how you figured out it was gut health, and how you dealt with it?
