Hi there
Please help! My son started getting loose stools in late June. It didn't phase him
So we thought we would wait and see and it wasn't watery just soft . 2 weeks later We went away and as he is a good eater and has always pooped a lot thought we would wait and see

Then In august I took him to the gp and they said it's probably nothing wait and see. In September it suddenly got a lot worse and noticeable as we were potty training. I took him in. They said he had a slight upper respiratory tract redness,no need antibiotics. I did a stool sample. Waited a week-everything infection wise was negative. But the calprotectin they couldn't do because there was too much mucus
Then I went to see a private dr- they ran stool sample last Friday, and bloods this Wednesday. But I'm worrying g as things are getting worse. As the last few weeks he has now been having the odd episode every other day generally of shouting on the loo as he does a poo as it hurts him / asking for cream for his tummy
On Sunday night he was vomiting with a temperature. Then Monday diarrhoea and refusing foods. Then Tuesday diarrhoea. Wednesday and Thursday getting better. Today he ate perfectly and seemed better but now I just checked him and his temperature is 39

Can anyone advise what I should do ? They are checking for coeliacs, calprotectin and some other inflammatory markers

Is there a chance that this is just a series of viruses as he has just gone back to nursery in September ? And the soft stools before is just how he is ? Or is this something more serious

His follow up isn't for another week and I don't know I can wait that wrong worrying I need to get him seen?
He hasn't lost weight although exists the last 2 weeks on white foods and dairy free products

Does his temperature come down with Calpol abs is he taking fluids ok?

user4501 · 18/09/2021 14:37

Yes it does a bit, not much
And fluids are fine
We went to the gp
And she was really disinterested. I think knowing we are lining up to see a specialist she said she is only there to check for acute infection needing immediate attention and couldn't see anything maybe his throat a little red that's it
The stool sample came back this morning all negative all bugs virus etc and calprotectin in normal range .
It's all both good news and dissatisfying as I want to work out what is next /what to do!

Has he had a urine test?

My LO was like this and turned out to be a urine infection.
