How long until a tooth full comes through?

At ten months old my son has only just begun teething. There was no signs beforehand just suddenly noticed there was something hard and bumpy on his gum. He won't really allow me to look at it without pulling his head away and getting upset.

For the past week or so he's been crying throughout the day and night but after giving him anbesol, neurofen of calgel he's stopped crying. I'm wondering how long does it take for the tooth to fully come through once it starts poking out the gum? I expected it would be quite quick but it's been ten days and the tooth is still looking the same. I'm just worrying since he's started teething late anyway that there may be a problem?

Honestly I think it massively varies from child to child and from tooth to tooth. Sometimes they have a growth spurt and the tooth comes through really quickly (and maybe another one too). Sometimes it pokes its head through and then just sits there for ages until the next growth spurt. Some DC seem to grow them slow and steady.

I wouldn’t worry, he’s within normal range to start teething, maybe he’s going to be one of those kids that gets 6 at once…

DD1 popped her 1st tooth at 7months, then all her teeth came in 2's after that, pretty quickly too. She had 16 teeth by 12 months but then she didn't get her next one until recently at about 26 months
However, DD2 is 5 months and both her bottom 2 have been showing for about 2 weeks but only today have started to push through.
It is honestly relentless but you will get there

It took what felt like forever for my DD’s first tooth to cut. It’s relentless.

She actually didn’t get her first tooth until 6 days after she turned 1, she now has 8 teeth at 16 months. 10 months isn’t that late Smile
