Vomiting bug + Keytones in urine

DD [3.9] started vomiting around 3:30am this morning. She’s been sick around 8 times today. No D just vomiting. She has done 2 big wees during the day today.

She’s been asking for water regularly and we’ve been encouraging small amounts at a time. We offered Diaoralyte but she was sick immediately and now won’t take any more. She has eaten breadsticks and a fruit pouch which didn’t stay down for long.

I have Hypremesis so have urine dip sticks at home, I’ve checked her most recent urine and it showed the highest amount of Keytones and small amount of protein.

She’s alert, talking and perked up a little bit over the last hour. Fairly happy sat watching iPad. She’s been saying her tummy hurts all day but I assumed it was due to vomiting. No fever. No other symptoms.

When I had +++ Keytones in early pregnancy I was admitted for fluids. Daughters are ++++ if the stick is accurate.

Advice appreciated! First proper sick bug for DD so apologies if I sound neurotic!

@justmewithmylifetoday
Just spotted this. The ketones, vomiting and asking for water would ring alarm bells for Type 1 Diabetes.
If that was the case I wouldn't hang around and would take her to A and E as it can progress to very serious, very quickly. If it turns out to be a false alarm then no harm done.

Please take her to A and E. Diabetes warnings as previous poster mentioned.

@Indiana2021 I was going to say the same thing re diabetes.

Thanks for the advice all. I called 111 and we were seen at the peadiatric assessment unit today. They were surprisingly not concerned about the Keytones and said it was just because she was vomiting and not eating. They’ve said it’s likely viral gastritis. While we were there dd perked up and had juice and bread which she kept down. Taking urine sample tommorrow as she refused to wee whilst there.

They should have tested for diabetes (a simple finger prick blood test). My dd and I have both had ketones when not well, but vomiting and ketones should trigger them to check for diabetic ketoacidosis. Hope that she manages to keep some fluid down but have a look on the NHS site for signs of dehydration and get her to A&E immediately if she is lethargic or shows problems with her breathing. Also, I'm sorry to say that vomiting is a symptom of covid on the Zoe App that is particularly common in children, so you might want to think about a covid test.
