Any opticians care to take a look at this?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to know if this is anything to be concerned about. I mentioned it to my gp a couple years ago and she said she didn't think so.

Basically both my dc have blue rings in the sclera of their eyes. Not around the iris maybe 3/4mm away towards the outer side of their eyes. I've attached a photo, it doesn't look very pronounced in the pic but it's noticeable to me when they look to the side etc

Any opticians care to take a look at this?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I’m not an optician but I thought that was normal? Also if both DC have it, surely that’s reassuring. I mean, what are the chances of both being ill with some mystery condition?

Blue sclera can be associated with connective tissue disorders - are you concerned about their health at all?

There is also a little bit of a persistent membrane, those little white strands going across the pupillary area - again they're probably nothing.

What did the optician say when you last had an eye exam?

Why don't you take them to an actual optician, appointments are free for children.

If I was concerned about my child's eyes I wouldn't be reaching out to an Internet forum if its been on my mind long enough to have spoken to a gp about it. If you'd just noticed it, I could understand but you've been wondering for ages. Confused

Go to optician. They will know what it is and whether it is a cause for concern.

It's not something I've thought about consistently, I just noted it again the other day because of the way my dc was laying down and the light was reflecting in a way that made it stand out.

I did ask the gp and they weren't concerned but didn't give an explanation as to what it was so I was just curious if anyone did know what it is. But you're right I've booked an opticians appointment so I will see what they say
