Toddler keeps saying 'done a poo'...

My 22 month old DD keeps getting upset and saying 'done a poo, done a poo' and trying to pull her nappy off. But 9 times out of 10 she hasn't done a poo.

It's been going on for around a week, in this time they've been having 2-3 loose nappies a day. So not constipation.

Their nappies have always been quite loose, like a thick purée, but have been slightly looser over the past few days. They seem otherwise well in themselves.

I've not really thought much into in and don't think it warrants a GP appointment. But today nursery called saying they think something might be wrong or she's unwell.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this? Or have any insight into what it could be?

Loose poos can still mean constipation and a blockage.
The loose puree goes around the blockage.
Ask gp for something

When I was potty training DS, he took a while to differentiate between farts and poo

He would often ask to use the potty and then let out a huge fart but nothing else, or be worried he’d had an accident in his pants when it was just a fart

Could it be that?

Well we've all been there sw1 🤣🤣🤣

I was going to say the same as @SW1amp. Especially if she's had loose poos. If she's had a bug she might be worried about following through.

Is her bug sore? If she's been getting changed and cleaned more frequently she might have a sore bum, the nappy won't be helping that. Try her with some nappy off time at home

Bum sore even!

Thank you everyone.

No sore bum at all. Literally completely fine other that slightly looser nappies. No excess drooling, she's not upset or cuddly, she's eating and drinking normally. She has allergies but they are under control and I've checked everything she's eaten.

She did have a cold last week but she's completely over that now.

She's always been a bit windy, so maybe not understanding the difference between fart and poo is part of it.

Annoying because nursery have asked me to pick her up because of it. However, she's only done 2 poos in the last 24 hours, both of which have been looser than usual (but that's been the case for almost a week, maybe related to the cold?).

She's missed so much nursery in the last 2 months, and I've missed so much work. I don't see her poo consistency, or her saying this, changing over night. So will they just keep sending her home every day?

Hey, I know this is an old thread but wondering if you ever got to the bottom of this? Currently going through EXACTLY the same with my 23 month old boy, no idea what’s going on with him.

Emtaso86 · 16/09/2023 22:07

Hi @Kelseyj89 did you ever find out what was going on as my daughter is currently going through the exact same issue :-(
