Help! Eye ointment tips

DiscoDinoBooBoo · 03/09/2021 07:00

My son has conjunctivitis, Dr has prescribed eye ointment. However, DS is point blank refusing to let me administer the ointment?

Any tips? I've tried the whole 'let's play doctors', 'look mummy's having some eye drops'.....even shown other children on YouTube having eye drops!

I have bathed his eye with warm water and a cotton pad for to remove the sticky bits so it's more comfortable but cannot get the ointment in!

Or are there any over the counter alternatives that would be easier?

He's 2.

Thanks

We had to hold my youngest down to put drops in, she always had an irrational fear of it.
Put the drop on the part of the eye nearest the ear, and let it run to the middle.

I used to put it in when they were asleep. Sometimes meant that they didn't get all the day's doses, but it seemed to work nonetheless.

Also, if it's the medicine that needs yo be kept in the fridge, warm it up by carrying it in your trouser pocket until you can no longer feel that it's cold, before applying it. Less shocking and unpleasant that way.

Thanks for the tips, managed one drop and figured bedtime I'll give it another go....
