Does everyone always get vomiting bugs?

Just looking for any messages of hope here!
Just arrived on holiday, and DS immediately started being sick… we think he picked up a bug from nursery as other kids there are sick too.1 day later and now DD has just started being sick too.

DP and I are bracing ourselves for potentially a holiday from hell!

Luckily DS seems much better after 24 hours though very tired and weak. So we are hoping it is quick for all of us.

Do parents always get these things too or does it sometimes spare us?!

I'm currently on day 2 of a bug. It has been horrendous but feeling much better. No one else has it. Last time my son had a bug but we were fine!

Brusselsprouts21 · 29/08/2021 02:17

My son had one about 3 weeks ago and usually he's sick like twice and then fine so didn't think it would be different this time. We got unlucky. It got all 4 of us. This is the first bug he's had that has passed onto someone else. The only difference i found this time was i usually wear mask when clearing it up and i didn't this time. Will know for next time. Best way to prepare is eat little and often and if no sign within 48 hours then best guess is you have escaped it. Good luck

DD had the bug, 24 hours later DS had it and the next day me and DH had it. Was horrendous but no one was ill more than a day.

Mostly we all get it tbh. Currently suffering - DC1 threw up Friday night (fine since), DC2 and I threw up last night, just waiting to see if DP is next Sad

Nope, we've never had a vomiting bug go through the whole family and often only one of us gets it. Fingers crossed!

happydays2345 · 29/08/2021 09:21

Never get them

Oblomov21 · 29/08/2021 09:27

Nope. Ds1 and Ds2 never had a day off school. Ds1 had conjunctivitis at nursery so was off once. Neither of them have ever been sick, ie vomit. Not had D&V. Nor had a cold or any sickness. Just that kind of kid.

My friends dd gets everything going and is barely at school.

FatAnkles · 29/08/2021 09:32

When DD was younger, yes, she got everything. I just put it down to her building a healthy immune system. And yes, everyone in the family got it.

Thanks everyone! Looks like a healthy mixed bag of responses…. DD still poorly and not holding much down. I’m feeling awful but putting that down to disrupted sleep and worry. We’ve often thought it is really ‘funny’ (not haha) how vomiting bugs seem to wait politely for one family member to recover, before infecting the next one. Just really hoping this time it doesn’t work through us all Confused

DH and I have never caught a bug from the children. I've never thought about that before, we must have been lucky!

DramaAlpaca · 29/08/2021 11:20

The first time one DC got it we all did, which wasn't fun as I was pregnant at the time. After that DH and I must've built up some immunity because we didn't get it again.

Carry a disinfectant spray around with you and use it everywhere.
