Does this look like infantile spasm?

My 9 week old has displayed jerky movements and head bobbing that to me seem like infantile spasms for the past week or 2, I took her to the GP last week about it and he said 99% sure she’s fine as she looked normal at the time of our visit, so pretty useless. I took her to a&e last night as my partner said when she did another bout of jerky movements one of her eyes twitched.

I explained everything that’s happened to her symptom wise and also the twitchy eye, but because I had no video (I have tried but by the time I get my phone she stops doing it!) the consultant said it sounds like silent reflux instead and that’s why she’s jerking.

My baby’s just started doing another bout of head bobbing so I managed to capture a video of it. Does this look like could be infantile spasm? And if so should I take her back to a&e today? I read online infantile spasm is a medical emergency

'she does the arms and legs flailing/jerking too with her eyes going wide and then crying afterwards'

This is what sounds like the startle reflex to me. DD did this whenever she got a fright, or you held her in a way she didn't feel supported, like if her head had slipped or you laid her down and her head was lower than her body for a second. I have videos of DH winding her when she wasnt expecting it and arms and legs flailing everywhere, then crying. Presumably she also does the startle reflex separately?

It is true that infantile spasms do look v like the startle reflex but the difference is they come in clusters and occur every few seconds or so whilst the seizures continue.

Bu rid there are other observations not captured on camera then def go back to the doctor or get a second opinion. If it is nothing great.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to comment. I agree it could just be the startle reflex, but infantile spasms do get mistaken for startle reflex because they do look very similar.

I’ll continue to attempt to capture her jerking on camera this week and hopefully have something to take with me to hospital, if I feel I need to go back. You know how it is with first babies, constant worry and assuming the worst! 😓

Better safe than sorry and a video is going to give a more accurate response from the doctors than a description so if they still think she's fine it will be easier for you to feel reassured. Good luck. 🙂
