temperature

my little one is almost 8 weeks old, and today he spiked a fever of 38.2.

when he was a week old he was in hospital due to a high temperature and many other symptoms such as not feeding, being listless and floppy ect. they did many tests including a lumbar puncture but everything came back negative.

the doctor said sometimes babies are just naturally warmer and that they also regulate their temperature from ours when feeding and doing skin to skin, and gave me some steps to follow for if he spikes a fever again, like removing some clothing, feeding and monitoring for 2 hours.

i’ve followed those steps and the temperature seems to be going up and down but it’s hovering around 38. He has been feeding a little more than usual today, but other than that he has absolutely no symptoms, he’s babbling away, smiling and kicking his legs like normal and staying awake and sleeping as he normally does, and feeding for at least 10 minutes at a time, burping well and being content after.

as the temperature is still there, I phoned 111 and they said that as he has no other symptoms they advice me monitoring for 24 hours and if it persists I should phone them back.

does anyone have any ideas of why this continues to happen? (this is the fourth time we’ve been through this now, the other two times the temperature was gone after the 24 hours) and the other time was when we ended up in hospital
