Cranial Osteopathy

My son is 6 weeks old, since he was 3 days old he became congested.
Midwife said it was a cold and checked with a GP who didn't want to see him.
Usual saline drops and an aspirator...
Health Visitor was the same as midwife.
I spoke to a dr when he was 3 weeks old and wanted him seen, nope.

I've an appointment with a cranial osteopath next week.
Has anyone got experience of cranial osteopathy and congestion?
He's unsettled and doesn't sleep unless on someone.

Reflux can cause congestion, might be worth looking into?

Toddlerteaplease · 16/08/2021 22:20

He's 3 weeks old. He needs to see a doctor!

I've wondered that. I am EBF and have cut dairy out of my diet since Saturday to see if it helps. Won't find out for a couple of weeks though Sad

I don't understand osteopathy and was frankly cynical but my DD used to get horrendous ear infections and regularly burst her eardrums every 6 weeks or so. I was worried about it causing permanent damage to her hearing. Took her to a cranial osteopath when she was 9 months old and she never had an ear infection ever again and she's 10 years old now.

I had chronic sinus pain for 6 months and the GP was useless. Said I could see an ENT but there is an 18 month wait list. Went to a cranial osteopath and again was very cynical but was at my wits end and had tried everything else. The evening after I had my first trrleatment the sinus pain went away. Its now been 4 weeks and it hasn't come back yet.

I don't get it. I don't even understand what she's doing when she puts her hands on my head but it seems to work. If it was just me I would wonder if its some kind of placebo effect but you can't fake a child stopping getting ear infections.

cranial osteopathy is dangerous nonsense. don't do it.

Redsquirrel5 · 17/08/2021 00:05

I haven’t but i do go to an Osteopath. Make sure they are registered.

There is an amazing cranial osteopath in our area who trains others. She treated my DD after forceps birth and stopped her horrendous colic. She did similar for others who recommended her. Baby cranial is highly specialised practice and Osteo's that aren't trained dong do it.
The baby feels no pain. It looks like a very gentle head massage / stroking is being done.
Ignore sceptics unless they have actually been to one. It was a miracle for us.

Eatenpig · 17/08/2021 00:21

That should say normal Osteo's who aren't trained don't dk it. It's a specialist field and looks nothing like normal Osteo.
In Europe is normal practice after a forceps or similar delivery

How on earth is it dangerous? I took my newborn to a cranial osteopath (not for congestion) and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. It worked brilliantly for DS.

It’s not dangerous. It’s worth giving it a go as it does seem to help some, and if you’re thinking of hanging around for an effective medical treatment via the GP or other HCPs, you’ll find there’s sod all on offer.

I took my son to see a cranial osteopath when he was a few months old (not for congestion but for issues I think were related to my traumatic labour) and it was absolutely amazing. Like a previous poster, I don't understand it at all but it definitely worked wonders for my son!!! Good luck!

This. My DC1 had horrendous colic and a bad bruise mark across head / face for days from forceps delivery. The cranial Osteo helps the recovery from a birth that's traumatic to the head. It literally reduced colic after first session then cured it after 2-3 more

For us there was no other offer of help or solutions. I had a baby that was screaming 2-3 hours a night and being sick. Every night
