Best Paracetamol Oral Suspension for 6+

Hiya

Any recommendations please? I need to replenish and was wondering if there are any decent tasting ones?

I've never bothered with Calpol, can't justify the price when something cheaper can do the same. But I do remember the older I got liquid paracetamol became quite yucky.

My DS is fussy but we need it in the cupboard due to his migraines.

Any good tasting ones that are reasonably priced please? Has to be strawberry. Don't think he would like orange.

Thanks in advance

If over 6 you could start moving over to tablets (1/2 of a 500mg tablet). You could try him swallowing an M&M / Skittle?

SpideyMom · 10/08/2021 11:51

No he won't do this. He would spit it out. I've had to crush tablets before and give him via a syringe and he won't swallow them

Just buy the Calpol. There must be a reason they have cornered the market and it has to be taste.

Needanewadventure2021 · 10/08/2021 20:07

I went with a generic brand. He will have to put up with it if its not quite right lol

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 11/08/2021 20:57

Will he take the calpol melts that dissolve on your tongue?

toomuchfaster · 11/08/2021 21:01

Calpol melts are strawberry. DD had them here at age 5 as they were much easier than faffing with a spoon in a hurry.

dementedpixie · 11/08/2021 21:04

My 2 also had the calpol melts. They are expensive though

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 11/08/2021 21:04

The melts are a bit gritty apparently.

My 11 year old suffers with migraine too. He found liquid suspension made him vomit. So takes tablets and his new meds are tablets too. He’s been taking a tablet for quite a while. I’m sure at some point he will manage a tablet if that’s what you have.

I just buy whatever is cheap in Tesco I think it’s orange. Same if that’s what there is that’s what they’ll take then a drink of water afterwards.

Emmacb82 · 12/08/2021 09:52

Medicine isn’t supposed to taste nice, once they get to that age they are old enough to know that they have to have it and can have a drink straight afterwards! I just get whatever the supermarket version is and they’ve always taken it with no issues so it can’t be that bad.

Boots own over the counter for a bigger bottle (works out cheaper /ml) seems accepted in our house - we also use calpol brand on occasion and both my kids seem ok with either.

Calpol fast melts are ok for one kid but not the other!

Needanewadventure2021 · 12/08/2021 11:04

I've gone with a generic brand. Thanks for all your replies

Needanewadventure2021 · 12/08/2021 16:25

Oh I wish I hadn't bothered and just gone with Calpol. The brand is Crescent Pharmacy and it tastes awful. My son complained it was horrible and tasted like it had bits in it. I tried it myself and it does taste gritty. Is this normal. The flavour is bad too!

Is paracetamol 6+ generally White in colour and gritty tasting? Honestly I haven't said it to him but I have to agree. It's horrible
