Rash on toddler

I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to mine with their little one as at a bit of a lost end!

My little boy was portly about 3 weeks ago, ended up taking him to hospital and he was diagnosed with a water infection. At this time he had some small raised bumps on the side of his wrists but doctors said nothing to worry about.

He had a weeks course of antibiotics and illness wise, seemed to improve aside from being a typical cling on to mummy 😊 His rash however has got worse, spreading to his arms and legs so took him to the doctors last week where they diagnosed him with hand, foot and mouth, despite being completely well in himself.

On Tuesday, the rash got so much worse. Really flared up and now all over his thighs, forearms, stomach and started on his back. Took him back to the doctors yesterday and they seemed clueless, not really knowing the cause but have said Scarlet Fever to 'air on the side of caution'. He's now on 10 days of strong antibiotics.

I'd rather but cautious but mother's instinct is that isn't the cause. He's happy as Larry but still concerned over the rash that he's now had for 3 weeks and seem to be no closer to accurately diagnosing it. Worried there's some underlying cause. Has anyone had a similar experience and anything like this diagnosed? I will be going back to the doctors but would be keen to hear other people's experiences.

Many thanks x

My 18month DS had hand foot and mouth, contacted at least 4 weeks ago. It spread for at least 2 weeks going into a third. And it was particularly bad around his nappy, front legs and arms. We thought maybe he got HF&M and then chicken pox it was that prevalent. However it was not itchy at all and no large spots on his torso.
4-5 weeks later, and the spots are now not raised, but they are taking an age to clear up. I can think they are anything else, because he had no other symptoms.
So I believe the current strain out there is extremely strong on the spots but weak on the effects.

Thanks good to know @beingajen2

Sorry @dementedpixie just seen it won't let me add pics just yet as I'm a new user!

Rash is raised, bumpy, scaly, red but doesn't seem to bother him - although he started rubbing slightly this morning
