Until I can get an actual appointment with the dr, does anyone have any idea what this could be? It's across DS shoulders and top of back/chest.

Fungal skin infection most likely

Agree with @tryingtryingandtrying, looks like a fungal skin infection. An antifungal bodywash will sort it very quickly if it is. GP can prescribe one.

Is it worth seeing a pharmacist for treatment do you think? I'm having difficulty getting through to reception at our gps and it's a phone call first before you can be seen so it may be quicker?

Yes definitely looks like a fungal infection. Not sure if pharmacy can help, when my ds had it our GP prescribed a cream (daktarin or something)
