Stomach pain

DD, 8, has been complaining of tummy ache for about 10 days...

By about a week I got in touch with GP - I had a phone consultation.

The pain is high up the stomach - above the belly button.

She does and always has suffered with firm stools (she is a bad eater - can't get much fruit or veg in her)

I kinda assumed the pains were constipation linked and doc has confirmed these thoughts and prescribed her movicol paediatrics.

I'm hopeful this is what it is and it will help - but we're 4 days into using the movicol and she's still heavily complaining of tummy aches...

Does this sound like it's linked or any other thoughts of what this could be???

Thanks!

I'd give the GP a call again and explain. Hope she feels better soon Cake

PlateSpinnerJuggler · 30/07/2021 22:26

@Constellation89 thanks! I asked the doc at the phone appointment how long to give it and be back in touch if still in pain - he said to give it 10 days... so that will take me to end of next week....

Just trying to think what else it could be or what to have checked

don't want to scare you and I'm sure its not thst but I had a stomach ache for 10dsys and turned out to be reputed appendix. appendicitis isn't always 1 sided pain as mine was in middle so I thought it wasn't that..
prob isn't that but may worth an ask Smile

nocoolnamesleft · 30/07/2021 22:27

How much are you giving? Has she actually started pooing any better?

PlateSpinnerJuggler · 30/07/2021 22:53

@scarybutnice were they as high up as between belly button and ribs???

OP posts:
PlateSpinnerJuggler · 30/07/2021 22:55

@nocoolnamesleft started her on what he said which is lower than what the papers say - he'd told me to increase every couple days - she today has two sachets in total. One this am and one this evening.
Stools are still like 2&1 on the Bristol chart (something I'm familiar with as OH has Ulcerative colitis)
I wish she'd been seen so he could feel her stomach - stupid phone consultations!

@scarybutnice did you not have other symptoms too with ruptured appendix like fever or something showing infection? Now worrying!
My children are always complaining of this and that so I sometimes find it hard to know what's serious and what's not... bit like boy who cried wolf...

Maybe keep an eye out for other symptoms such as temperature, high heart rate and shallow breathing within the next few days and when you get to the end of the treatment ring the doctors again? Hope she gets better soon

PlateSpinnerJuggler · 31/07/2021 00:36

@mancarose thanks!

hi op
sorry just seen this,as far as I know I didn't have any other symptoms but I was taking pain relief every 4 hours for a week as I was trying to mask I was in pain,so I quite likey did.psin was lower down though

scarybutnice · 31/07/2021 10:57

I hadn't managed to get gp appointment and by the sun I wss in agony so went to hospital so I'm guessing thsts the day it burst

scarybutnice · 31/07/2021 10:57

but bursed appendix is rare

PlateSpinnerJuggler · 31/07/2021 13:12

@scarybutnice thanks for getting back to me!
She's also taking a lot of pain relief...
But she is distractible and when she's busy playing with friends or at the park she gets on with it with the odd coming to me to remind me "my tummy hurts"

Erch- hate not knowing!

Could it be a UTI?

PlateSpinnerJuggler · 31/07/2021 14:16

@Hartleyhare1206 can that be so high up the abdomen?

OP posts:
Hartleyhare1206 · 31/07/2021 14:20

My DD has had utis and said the pain is higher up than I’d have expected. But she is only 4 so maybe not the best at pinpointing it?

Does she have pain passing urine too though?

Weirdly no, never. Which is why we’ve struggled to realise what was causing her tummy ache in the past!

Wow that's so bizarre! How did they work our uti? Urine sample?
OP posts:
Hartleyhare1206 · 31/07/2021 16:44

Yes water sample. In the first instance it had turned in to a kidney infection before we realised what it was. After that I check at the first sign of pain!
It might not be a UTI in your case, I’m not trying to panic you! It was just a thought x
