Grunting Baby…

My three week old hasn’t pooped in 48 hours now. He lies in his crib or in the bed next to me straining, grunting and pretty much going bright red from it.

I’ve read about babies having to learn to poop and this sounds like what it could be, but I’m at my wits end. He is so unsettled and there’s nothing I can do to help.

Does anyone have any advice??

What have you tried? Leg cycling? Tummy massage? Warm bath?

@ShowOfHands Yes, he’s had a warm bath last night. I try bicycle legs anytime he relaxes as his legs are usually scrunched up. I’ve had his nappy of and giving him gentle lower tummy massages.
The only thing that’s settling him is lying on me, which I don’t mind but it also renders me completely useless to do anything else 🙈

Ahh at 3 weeks I don't think being anything other than a baby cushion is expected!

Is the 48hr break in poos new? Breastfed or formula? Feeding normally? Well hydrated?

@ShowOfHands Haha, yes you’re right there.

It is new, he went 24 hours before but never this long. He’s pumping away like nobody’s business.
He is formula fed, the cow and gate ready made bottles. Feeding away normally, perhaps even a bit more than usual. He’s having plenty of wet nappies too.
