When to worry about a cough?

I posted the other day about my 8 month old having a cough, rash and temperature and was told by NHS 111 that it was just viral and no body wanted to see him.

He had the cough before the rash and temperature even started but now since the temperature and the rash have gone the cough seems to have got worse.

His Dad has also had a cough and a cold (not covid) and today I've woken up feeling the same. I know a lot of people recently have come down with a cold. But when should I be worried about his cough? All 111 said to me was if he's not "struggling for every breath" or if his chest isn't "sucking in" then they're not worried. But he sounds really chesty when he's coughing. Like he's making his eyes water and several times he's sounded as if he's going to be sick from coughing. He's probably had this cough about 2 weeks now but because of his breathing being ok no one seems worried.

How do you know his dad has a cold not covid?

If he’s eating/ drinking/toileting/playing normally then I wouldn’t worry.
You could always ring the GP and run it past them.
Coughs can linger in little ones.

Because we were both covid tested?

Let me just add since I did think it would've been the obvious answer to it not being covid 🙄 me, baby and babies dad all live together. Babies dad is tested with lateral flow tests several times a week for work. However when he started showing signs of what he though could've been covid (but we're general cold symptoms runny nose, headache, sore throat) we went to order the proper PCR home tests and when it asks "do you have any of the following symptoms" the answer was no and it said we were not eligible for a test. However being the anxious person he is I simply changed my answers on the site to say symptoms were present and we both did and then sent of the tests, both negative. I was almost certain it was a common cold anyway and not covid but for his piece of mind we did the test.
