NJ tube

Hello just looking to see if anyone has any experience of an NJ tube for reflux? My DS2 is 8 weeks old and currently an inpatient in GOSH. He was breastfeeding fine at home until he was 10 days old and he didn’t loose any weight. He had a coarctation of the aorta and needed OHS to correct, all went well and the doctors here are satisfied with his heart and diaphragm which needed pinning also, however after his second operation he has developed quite bad reflux and he is on continuous feeds via an NG tube and he is being sick between 2 and 6 times a day. The doctors have suggested that an NJ tube may be needed, however I want to avoid this if possible as I understand I cannot take him home if he is fed via this and I have another child who needs their mum. I will obviously do what’s best for my baby but he is gaining weight and I feel like an NJ tube is a drastic measure. Just want to know if anyone else has been in a similar situation and has come out the other side?

We went to jej feeding for severe reflux and it has been life changing. No more aspirations.
We have a pegj rather than nj which I imagine is a little trickier to manage.

Thank you for your response. He’s only been sick once today and he was only sick 3 times yesterday so I’m hoping the newest dose of anti reflux medicine has started to work and I posted prematurely 😬

I think you need more information...if he is gaining weight, why do the medics think he needs nj tube? Is he still BFing at all? Why do the think he has developed such has reflux? All of mine had reflux and it did start around 2 weeks,so it might just be natural, but if his reflux started like this at home, nobody would be talking about an NJ tube at this stage, especially if he is not losing weight. Are there ongoing health needs from the op.?

Sorry just saw he had diaphragm surgery, I know diaphragm issues can cause reflux so potentially could improve as he heals, maybe ask about this. Hope he's home soon.
