Swollen Jaw

DD2 - aged 8 - woke up this morning with pain in her jaw and it slightly swollen...
I assumed teeth issues and booked the earliest emergency appointment which is Monday afternoon.
OH did not seem impressed with me and called 111 tonight and has sorted an out of hour GP weekend app for her for Tom am.
What would you think could be? I'm stuck on teeth or could it be mumps? Is that going around??? She is vaccinated but I know that isn't always 💯

It is much more likely to be a dental issue than a GP issue. Try to get an emergency dental appointment today; if your daughter is registered with a dentist, ring that practice first and get the out of hours details from their answer machine.

Although it may well be dentist, you may be best going to a GP and they can refer you to maxillofacial if urgent.

I had a really odd swollen jaw once. I'd been ill the day before with mild virus, woke up and couldn't open my mouth properly, and my lower jaw was stuck a good 1/2" back.
Turned out it was swelling that was just holding it in the wrong place but it took the maxillofacial rather than dentist to see.

“Swollen jaw” is a bit vague, even for internet diagnosis Grin.

Is it generalised or specific swelling/pain? She’s 8 so I would have thought if teeth she’d know it?

When you say “jaw”- upper near ear, lower by neck? It could be her neck chain of gland which would be a virus of some sort- are there little hard lumps beneath her ear down her neck? Mumps would be general neck swelling on both sides, it looks like a bad hollywood fat suit. It could be a blocked salivary gland, that would be the jaw/cheek swelling.

Can she not pinpoint the pain? Any other feeling unwell, fluey, temperature?
