15 month old - chesty cough

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can help/advise me.

My 15 month old DD developed a cough last Wednesday. She isn't coughing a lot, just maybe a couple of times an hour or so, nothing too bad. It doesn't keep her up at night either but it's a real chesty cough and I can tell she has a lot of mucus on her chest. She's generally fine within herself maybe a bit iffy but I think it's a mixture of teething and the fact she caught a slight cold from nursery too.

But I am just wondering, when it is advisable to see a GP? I don't want to ring them over a very minor cough but also don't know how long would be the right time to leave it for if it doesn't start to clear up?

Apologies if this post seems ridiculous but she's my first child and it's also her first ever cough so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

TIASmile

Was she covid tested?

Yes, negative.

DS1 had a chesty cough for literally 2 months when he was about 16 months old. I took him after a couple of weeks to the doctors and they said nothing to worry about

It didn’t improve and sounded worse so took him again after about another 4 weeks and they said nothing to worry about

But then another time he had a chest infection and needed antibiotics.

Maybe just take her to be checked to be on the safe side

Thank you for your response @Willow4987

I'm going to wait to see if it's cleared up by next Wednesday (as it would have been two weeks by then) and if it's still there, will give them a call.
