What’s on my DD’s leg?

I noticed this lump on my DD’s leg a week or so ago and brushed it off as a bite or something but it’s still there now. She hasn’t complained about it so I don’t think it hurts her or anything.

My initial thought was that maybe it’s a wart but my Google search didn’t bring up pictures that look quite like it.

It’s pink in colour, less than centimetre in diameter and on her knee if that makes a difference.

Could it be a mole?

Looks like a mole to me.

My dd had a similar patch recently, just thought it was an insect bite. She showed me it a week later and it had grown with a more obvious outline so I've treated it as ringworm. An anti-fungal cream from the chemist has pretty much cleared it up.

I thought it looked like a mole, but you could take her to a pharmacy for a second opinion

I’ll keep an eye on it but it doesn’t look like ringworm.

Thanks all. I’ll look at it again tomorrow morning with better light and maybe pop to see the pharmacist.

Does it look a bit like a blister? Dd had similar and gp said it was mollescum. Highly contagious and will probably spread but don't pop them! Takes anything from 5 weeks to 6 months to go if it is, no treatment either unfortunately

CaviarAndCigarettes · 11/06/2021 21:15

How does it feel to touch? I had something similar visually but felt like a pea under the surface.
I can't remember what it was called now because it was years and years ago but it was a sort of benign thingy and they removed it in the doctors surgery.
If it is flat I would suggest it's probably a new mole. Photograph it and measure it. Check it periodically. Should be fine

No, not really. Doesn’t look like you could pop it.

I’ll check tomorrow. It’s definitely not flat though.

Paediatric mastocytosis? Maybe...
It's something to do with an over production of histamine. Harmless in children.

Cityzen74 · 11/06/2021 22:32

My son gets those and they often get infected and need an antibiotic cream. He only gets them in the summer and so I have concluded they are some form of insect bite. If you find anything out from the pharmacist will you let me know if you remember? He hasn’t had one yet this year but over the last couple of summers he has had loads. Hope your DD’s mark clears up soon Smile

Bluebird76 · 11/06/2021 23:14

I have something that looks remarkably similar on my leg. GP sent me to the skin clinic at the hospital and doctor said it was an elderly insect bite! But YMMV. It's very quick and easy, in these days of online appointments, to send a pic through to the GP for confirmation that it's nothing sinister.

Ok. I’ve looked again today in daylight and I think it’s more brown than pink. I’m leaning more towards mole now. I’ll keep an eye on it though and get it checked out if it changes shape or anything.

It’s raised but doesn’t feel like there’s anything under the surface like a lump. It’s not rough or crusty or anything either.

I have a few dermatofibromas on my leg which look quite similar,
