I posted a couple of days ago about my DD's swollen eye, the large chalazion has burst when she was having her hot compress this evening, lots of pus has come out but the swelling is still large and I am sure there is a lot more in there.

Does anyone have experience of a chalazion bursting? Did it then just heal up by itself. with the amount of pus that came out of it I am concerned about infection.

Hi, I would suggest seeing your optometrist (optician) who can advise some chloramphenicol. The chalazion will naturally heal itself, but keeping it clean with boiled water and allowed to cool to a warm temperature on a flannel. This has encouraged the discharge to exit naturally. The best thing to do now is keep it clean and to reduce any risk of infection, some chloramphenicol drops/gel which is a broad spectrum antibacterial, which you can get from a pharmacist or optometrist. Hope that helps.
