My DD4 has this swelling on her eye which started four weeks ago, she has had antibiotics two weeks ago but we have just been told that all we can do is carry on with hot compresses and it will get better by itself. however the doctor said this could even take years to get better.

Does anyone have any idea how bad this needs to get before she is offered any treatment other than just hot compresses. It seems to getting bigger each day!

Have you tried booking her in fir an eye test and discussing it with the optician? Might be worth a try Smile

I think the optician would only be able to refer to the ophthalmologist for treatment and the ophthalmologist said we should only be concerned if her whole eye swells shut.

Could you get to Moorfields or similar? Poor thing, looks uncomfortable

No, we are in SW, thinking about going private but don't really have the money and concerned we will pay out a lot of money to be told the same thing, that she has to live with it. It annoys me because the ophthalmologist said he would treat it if she was an adult but because she is four she has to live with it.

Op it’s because they’d need to use a general
To be able to cut it out. A 4 year old won’t be able to sit still and you’d risk permanently damaging the eye.

How often are you using the compresses?

DH had something similar to that a while back - got the same response from Moorfields - need to wait it out. Was not happy - but wait it out he did and six weeks later it was gone. Fingers crossed will be the same for your DD
