9 month DD constantly ill since starting nursery

Did anyone else’s little one’s become constantly ill when they started nursery?

My little girl is 9 months old and has been at nursery for 2 months now- she’s pretty much had a cold for the entire 5 weeks and the doctors say she has a viral infection, that then passes and now again she has another viral infection this week which has caused a raised temperature and her being so unhappy and sorry for herself. I took her to A&E last night as I was so worried about the temp which kept going up to 38.8 after the nurofen wore off, but they’ve said it’s just another viral infection which is because of starting nursery.

Is this normal or should I be worried something else is going on which is why she’s catching infection after infection?

Yes it's just par for the course unfortunately when they start nursery. My DD had all sorts - scarlet fever, hand foot and mouth, colds, tummy bugs - the lot!

I've heard that preschool children have around an average of 12 colds a year and your little one hasn't previously been exposed to any at all I'm guessing so it sadly doesn't seem strange to me. But horrible for her and you!

My son is the same right now, he was fine for the duration of Covid until schools reopened and now it’s just one virus after another! I’d say every 2-3 weeks he needs a Covid test and has to have a day off whilst we wait for the results. Thankfully nothing too serious yet.

Could have written this.
We’re getting over what feels like a cold that’s lasted since beginning of March 😬.

I feel so sorry for him, teething, cold, cough, sore throat. It’s all happening

I suffer from bad health anxiety and I can't help but google the fact she's constantly getting infections and still hasn't managed to shake off the cold for a lover a month, and that her temp has been up for 4 days. Wish I hasn't looked as I can't help but worry it's something seriously wrong.

Thanks ladies, that's helped reassure me- I'm sorry your little babas are going through this too!

Always talk to the GP OP if you’re worried. If it helps I’ve read the first year of childcare is the worst whilst they build some immunity. For my little boy the first year was Covid so think he has some catching up to do.

Mine was the same at around that age, he kept getting diarrhoea literally every two weeks went on for a few months. He wasn't at nursery but picking it up at soft play etc
