To not feel reassured

I noticed this on DS toe earlier on (he’s 12 weeks) I phoned the hv who told me to go to the walk in centre. The doctor said she didn’t know what it was and that was it. Her exact words were “you don’t know and I don’t know” No explanation on what it could be. She didn’t even look that closely at it. I literally spoke to her for 2 minutes. Obviously I don’t know better than a doctor and I’m sure he’ll be fine but I’ve come home not feeling very reassured. Any ideas on what could have caused it?

It looks so swollen. Im not medically trained but have you looked to see if there is a hair wrapped around the toe. That may cause it to swell like that. The hair would be fine and you may have to poke around the swelling to see it.

OnOldOlympus · 25/05/2021 17:49

Yes, that was my thought too, could there be a hair or something wrapped around the toe?

Sparkles556 · 25/05/2021 17:50

@JivingCoffeeCup @OnOldOlympus I checked for that when I first noticed it but there definitely wasn’t a hair there

Poor little baby, I wonder if it's a bite? Either way the doctor sounds crap. I'd take him back if I were you.

SwanShaped · 25/05/2021 17:51

Yeah check if there’s a hair. How long has it been like that. I wouldn’t be happy either with that response

OnOldOlympus · 25/05/2021 17:53

Hmmm, strange. In that case it’s probably some sort of infection? To be honest I wouldn’t be reassured either, is there anywhere else you could go to get someone to look at it? Pharmacy?

Onceuponatime1818 · 25/05/2021 17:55

Ingrowing toenail?

I would want another opinion as baby may need antibiotics if there’s an infection there

Sparkles556 · 25/05/2021 17:55

@NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy yes could possibly be a bite. It’s not bothering him which makes me feel better
@SwanShaped I only noticed it this morning, feeling a bit bad incase it’s been there for a whileSad
@OnOldOlympus Pharmacy is a good idea

I’d want another opinion. Pharmacy is a good idea v

SwanShaped · 25/05/2021 18:25

Also, don’t feel bad. You would have noticed it before if it had been there a long time

AddisonMontgomeryShepherd · 25/05/2021 18:28

I agree with pp I would want a second opinion & would start at the pharmacy. I've always found it a great help to have them check first & feel more like I have a reason to go to the doctor if they say so!

Thisisjaaam · 25/05/2021 18:33

That looks to me like a chill blain.

I’d want another opinion. Looks very sore

user365683 · 25/05/2021 19:11

I thought Chill Bain aswell. I googled it just to check it was what I was thinking and saw this. You haven't had any covid symptoms recently have you?

@user365683 oh Jesus😳 no, no symptoms

Sorry I was not trying to scare you it does say it's usually a delayed sign, mild and often goes away on its own. I would definitely get a second opinion.

Sparkles556 · 25/05/2021 19:30

@user365683 don’t apologise it’s fine, I was just surprised! Yes I’ll definitely get a second opinionSmile
