Child's face

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help me. My daughter seems to have a really puffy/swollen face in the morning. It doesn't appear to just be normal puffy around the eyes but it's quite extreme and even her nose looks swollen. I've tried googling but can't seem to find anything.

Take a photo and go and make an appointment with your GP.

It sounds like some sort of allergy, so you could try an anti-histamine to see if that helps.

Is she suffering in any way with it? Is she uncomfortable/struggling to breathe/see?

Age
Is she suffering?

aimslou · 23/05/2021 14:16

She's 12. It's been happening for a while now and it's only in the morning then will go down throughout the day.
Some days it's worse than others

Allergy to something in her room

Valhalla17 · 23/05/2021 14:39

Allergies. Is her room clean, no dust?

MrDarcysMa · 23/05/2021 14:42

Allergy? Have you tried antihistamine before bed? If you do and she wakes up ok it's likely an allergy.

aimslou · 23/05/2021 15:09

I never thought about allergies, she is around animals a lot and always has been but I will give the antihistamines a try and see if that helps. Thanks

Allergy to washing powder which is then worse over night with her face on the pillow?

stuckinarutatwork · 23/05/2021 15:20

Given her age, I'm wondering if she's using any acne lotions / creams? I was quite allergic to one of them around the same age. It made my face swell - not dramatically but it was noticeable each morning when I woke.

Gingernaut · 23/05/2021 15:24

If it's only when she wakes up, it might be house dust or house dust mites.

At the very least, the bedding, bed and pillows need treating.

She does use a face wash but has used it for quite some time now. Also we have recently moved house so have had new bedding and carpets but this was also happening in our previous house. It's baffling as she shares a room with her sister and she is fine. Will try the antihistamines and see if they make may difference.

Hay fever?

aimslou · 23/05/2021 17:22

I don't think it is hayfever, I get hay fever and she doesn't have any of the typical signs. I will try the antihistamines for a week and see if that makes a difference if not will book her in the doctors
