My daughter's eye started watering a lot today and she was rubbing it a little. She's 7 months. This evening her eyelid is a little swollen (very minor but I can tell)
I googled looking for remedies and I've come across something called orbital cellulitis which needs an immediate trip to a&e.
I suffer terribly with health anxiety (I've had lots of cbt for it) and this has done me in. Basically her eye is slightly red, it's not even that bad, and I can call her GP in the morning and will be watching overnight for any signs of it getting worse.
But I now feel so wretched and I'm back to extreme hyper vigilance, which is an issue for me anyway.
I feel so sick. Can anyone talk me down?!

Bless you, it's so hard when you have health anxiety relating to DC - I've been through it myself, it's exhausting.

The condition you're worried about sounds a lot more painful/severe than the symptoms your LO has. Would it help to call 111 and describe her symptoms to them? They will tell you what red flag symptoms to look out for and they will of course direct you to A&E in the unlikely event it's needed.

I hope your LO's eye is better soon, and you both get some rest tonight.

I would ring 111, just so you can get some rest tonight.

An acquaintance works in optometry so I sent her some photos and she has reassured me and told me what to look for... it's helped a little but once I've spiralled it takes me a while to get back to myself again.
I'm trying to remember all my cbt techniques but it's so hard when it's a baby's health. This is my second child and even though I would maybe like another I won't because I can't do the anxiety of the first 2-3 years (until they can tell you what's going on!) all over again.

Hi OP, Sorry you are worried. In the immediate term it doesn't sound at all like orbital cellulitis. Dh had that and his eye was hugely swollen and then the swelling and redness started tracking down the side of his face. He did need strong antibiotics but it was v clear something was wrong. Yours sounds like mild irritation/infection or possibly conjunctivitis at worst. Of course keep a watch on it though.
Longer term do get more help with anxiety as it's no way to live (from experience) 💐
