Does anyone have a child with diabetes? Do you remember what the early warning signs were please?
Thank you

Yes. He was diagnosed aged 7 and is now a whopping healthy 21.

He was very tired, had lost a lot of weight. In the latter stages he started to wet the bed, drank loads and his breath smelled of pear drops.

He also was very anxious and cross, suffering stomach aches at times. It was missed a few times by the GP.

What are you seeing?

onecandream · 17/05/2021 22:41

Thank you for this.
Excessive thirst, painful headache with crying and screaming followed by projectile vomiting. Then sleeps. No fever. Weight and sleep fine. Happened 5 times since the start of the year. Last few times a week apart. Aged 5.5
My other thoughts are maybe allergies.
Speaking to doctor this week.
Thanks again.

The symptoms don't seem the same as your sons, which has put my mind at ease. Hope the doctor can help.

Whoa! Sounds very upsetting. How is his breathing? Without wishing to worry you, if that becomes rapid and shallow then a and e.

Please ensure he gets tested - hopefully it’s not but if it is there’s a lot of help about.

It he starts weeing more, then that’s a warning sign. It is not something to wait on though, if you are concerned (ketoacidosis can be dangerous).

Not a child with it but I have it. Signs were being up in the night drinking loads of water, I can't even explain the thirst I had. Also peeing ALOT, lost weight without trying, thrush and knackered.

onecandream · 17/05/2021 22:54

Thank you. Breathing fine.
Breath smelling of pear drops is a symptom I'd not thought to check so will do. Kind of you to reply.

You can get testing kits from the pharmacy if you want to check sooner

conkersarebonkers · 17/05/2021 23:16

Any chance it could be migraines?

onecandream · 17/05/2021 23:25

Didn't know that about the pharmacy so thanks.

Just been looking into migraines and that could be a possibility actually. Poor mite, he's so young.
