My 5 year old son has a twitchy eye?

Hi all

Hope you're all healthy and being sensible in these desperate times.
This is my first post here and I'm looking for some advice.
My son is 5 and around 4-6 weeks ago we started to notice his left eye winks by itself.
At first it was barely noticeable but it's pretty constant now.
Sometimes it almost looks like his eye is cramping and he wipes it with his hand.
I have videos I'd like to share if I knew how.
A couple of weeks ago we went to the gp who said nothing was out of the ordinary, but he did notice the twitch.
He recommended an eye test at an optician and he would refer us to an eye specialist doctor.
He is otherwise healthy and happy, gets plenty of exercise and healthy sleep.
Meals are healthy and balanced, sugary/salty snacks are limited.
He has friends and loves school, home life for him is basically the kind I wish I'd had.
Last wednesday we went to specsavers who said his eyes looked perfect and his vision is 100%
The optician recommended an eye doctor.
I've emailed the gp for an update on the eye doctor and I wanted to ask if any of you have experienced this on either you or your child.

Thanks for your time and stay safe.

I'd almost forgotten about it but similar thing happened with my son. He was six. It was March. His eyes started twitching. Friends, and even his teachers commented on it and thought it was cute/funny that he was winking at them! I was worried it was a tick. Sometimes it was one sometimes both eyes more like a blink.

Anyway, went to GP who diagnosed hay fever, prescribed antihistamine eye drops and it stopped overnight.

His sister has it and her symptoms started at six also. His dad has it.

Has hay fever been ruled out in your case?

Sorry, I meant they have hay fever ^ not the winking/blinking.

Thanks for replying. I didnt consider hayfever at all to be honest. I'm sure he has allergies to dust but that went away after we got a dyson V11 (recommended!) Is it safe to give kids antihistamines all summer?

Yes. It's fine. I've asked GP this repeatedly.
DD22 and DS13 are on antihistamine tablets (cetirizine), antihistamine eye drops and nasal spray all summer every summer from the age of about six.

I'm allergic to house dust mite so might look into that vac. Thanks!

Is he getting enough sleep. My left eye twitches when I'm tired. Has done all my life.
