Urine Samples

Daughter has a viral infection, Dr said he wants a urine sample from her when she went this AM, she's had one of those unricol? Bags on since then and she's not had a wee 🤦‍♀️ I've taken it off now for bath/bed etc. Is there a more comfortable way for her I can collect it? Or do I need to go back to docs for another bag? Thanks!

How old is she?

How old is she and hold long has she been since she last urinated? My first concern is withholding urine for a long period of time.

Agree with PPs, I’m afraid that I’d be quite concerned by the fact she’s not passed urine all day - I would call NHS24 and seek advice, especially if she’s still out of sorts.

Sorry! Should have said she has had a wee (once I'd took the bloody bag off!)

I had to take DS to A&E once and they made him sit over an adult cardboard wee bowl thingy...he was one. Was very uncomfortable for him and he refused to go. They then let him go home with the bag thing stuck to him and he again didn’t go

As soon as he was in a normal nappy he went

They suggested he go naked for a bit and basically try and catch it in a cardboard thing as he would be more comfortable at home

Okay, so if she is weeing you can use a gauze or cotton wool pad in the nappy to syringe the urine out.

Keep an eye on how often she is having wet nappies though.

I'd be tempted to try and stick her over a bowl/potty first thing tomorrow morning as the first morning wee tends to be massive. Or let her play in the bath naked and stick a pot under as soon as she starts to go.
