Has one's kids grey teeth bounced back!?

My son had a fall and knocked his two front teeth. He's just turned three. His fall was about 12 days ago. He cried a little and his lip bled, but he seemed ok after a few minutes and was running around and biting into an apple a day or two later without complaint. The teeth aren't loose.

They have now turned a worrying shade of off white. Slightly grey. I've googled it and there's varying information - mostly just wait and see if they go black, fall out, or go white again in their own.

He has a dentist appointment booked but I'm stressing. Has anyone had this happen? What was the end result?

Same thing happened to my dc(5) about 6-8 weeks ago. They had 2 teeth turn grey after a big bump, enough to be noticable In photographs. The teeth are now back to their normal colour now so I'm guessing they were just bruised (which I didn't realize could happen to teeth).

Brilliant! That's hopeful news. Tbh I don't know if my husband would have even noticed the discolouration without me pointing it out. I read about the nerve being bumped and low blood supply that fixes it self so fingers crossed! Thank you

My DD took a nasty fall to the mouth and her teeth turned an off white grey colour, not too noticeable. They stayed that colour till she lost them. Now has two gorgeous white adult teeth in their place. No permanent damage.

I think it means the tooth has died when it turns grey. Luckily it is only a baby tooth I'm assuming?

OnSilverStars · 11/05/2021 10:36

Well the google tells me it's not necessarily dead 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

My son did this, fell whilst climbing up a slide (Hmm). Both front teeth turned grey, one went white again, one stayed grey until it fell out naturally. The adult teeth are not discolored at all, but the new one to replace the grey one took ages to come in and gave me a proper fright!

Glad it was ok in the end. Dentist said she thinks they'll be ok but we have to wait and see.

One of mine did this, tooth remained grey for four years before falling out. Adult tooth is white but quite crooked

Baboutheocelot · 13/05/2021 07:38

My son fell when he was two and bumped one of his teeth. It went a darker colour than the one next to it and after a year or two, the dentist said that the tooth was dead. He had to have it removed when he was about 7 because he had lost the baby teeth around it and it was affecting the adult tooth growing behind it.

gothicsprout · 13/05/2021 07:44

DD bumped one of hers on the bottom of a slide too at 2.5, still there 2 years later but noticeably slightly darker than the other teeth. The dentist at the time said it may fall out sooner than usual or may not, and may change colour or may not Hmm

His teeth have gotten darker the last couple days. Trying to put it in perspective and realise a lot worse could happen but it's kinda breaking my heart a little bit!

My son fell and bumped a front tooth. It did turn a greyish colour but returned to normal after about 6 months.

minipie · 18/05/2021 11:43

My DD has a grey tooth from a fall when she was two. It has got less grey as she’s got older but still definitely not white. Honestly I was very upset at first but then you stop noticing.

OnSilverStars · 18/05/2021 21:26

Thanks for the replies. It's really upsetting me. It's both from teeth and they're getting darker 😭

My son bumped his front teeth on his scooter at about 4, the tooth turned a really dark grey i was convinced the tooth was dead, dentist said to leave it, it went back to white after a couple of months, a slight shade off his others but really not noticeably different!

Just jumping on this thread as my son fell in the bath 3 weeks ago and although no obvious trauma (even took him for an emergency appointment) his two front teeth are turning grey. It's really upsetting me, hopefully, like others, they don't go too dark or (fingers crossed) they return to white :(
