5yo with a cough a night. Wondering if anyone has tried the likes of broncho stop junior, covonia for kids. Anything you've found that works?

(It's not covid, phew)

TIA!

Have you spoken to your GP?

Both my DDs coughed at night and were diagnosed with asthma.

Luckily, they seem to have outgrown it, with DD1 (9) having the occasional seasonal flare-up.

Happy to be corrected, but I think most cough medicines contain sugar syrup, so I'd be hesitant to use them at night.

I've used an own brand one from the chemist it's a bit like cavonia I think, it helped a little, if nothing else it made me daughter think it would work.
Normally just use a spoon of honey or a warm honey and lemon drink but my almost 5yo coughs mostly in the morning.

Best thing we've found has been getting an aromatherapy diffuser and putting a few drops of 'breathe' oils in it and leaving overnight in bedroom. The hydrated air really helps

Have they been checked for asthma?
Apparently, cough medicine isn't recommended according to my GP and another HCP because it stops them coughing but the body needs to cough to get rid of anything that is blocked there.

Now this is going to sound bonkers - but a MN tip from over the years is slather vick all over their feet and pop on socks. A tip sworn by loads here. Told you it sounded bonkers, but worth a go

My daughter loves Boots blackcurrant glycerin throat sweets, they do seem to sooth a tickly throat and are age 3+.

My paediatrician relative says no cough medicines actually work medically - but the placebo effect is a powerful thing! So basically anything on a spoon that you act like it will fix the cough will do about the same job!

Thanks everyone, really helpful!
