Do these look like bruised toenails?

Noticed these bruise type discolourations to DD’s big toes. She’s not dropped anything on them, could it be from ill fitting shoes (although she’s not mentioned her shoes being too small but I will check in the morning when she’s awake) or from some of the sports activities she’s been doing lately (acrobatics and basketball at school) they don’t hurt and weren’t there a week or so ago when Dh cut her nails.

I would photo of covid toes and compare

Looks like she’s been kicking a football or something to me.

I know someone who got black toes from ice skating boots that were too small, so definitely possible.
Ended up losing the nails

TheGriffle · 01/05/2021 21:29

Have just looked up covid toes and the discolouration from that is just on the toes not the nails like DD’s so hopefully that’s not it!

I’m hoping it’s too small shoes, it never crossed my mind to ask her before sending to bed, I took the picture, asked her if she’d hurt them or if they hurt then sent her on her merry way so I could Google what it might be!
Is it unlikely to be fungal and more a bruise?

Fungal is white chalky, & thickening of the nail from what I have seen

Shouldbedoing · 01/05/2021 21:58

Definitely bruising. My bet would be the jumping and sudden stopping in basketball wearing trainers that are recently outgrown. I'm guessing that acrobatics is done barefoot.

idontlikealdi · 01/05/2021 21:59

I get marks like that from lacing my trainers too tight even thigh they fit. I have stupidly sensitive feet. Def not fungal.

TheGriffle · 02/05/2021 16:13

Thank you for reassuring me. Acro is barefoot yes.

She said this morning the trainers she has been wearing all week, for PE and basketball she has been curling her toes up in them so I’m guessing that’s the cause. She’s bloomin 8, you’d think she’d have the common sense to tell me her trainers are hurting!
