Karvol Capsules

Showing my age now, but anybody remember Karvol Capsules and know of a current decongestant for kids that smells like them? Made mistake of telling my bunged up LO about them...and now being nagged to get them!

There used to be a karvol plug in as well. Loved that smell

Not the same, but maybe they'll be happy with Klearvol capsules instead. Just tell them it's got a new name.

I've seen the Klearvol. Am guessing those of you who've used them haven't smelt Karvol to know if they're similar at all? I hope so with the name so similar.

Is Karvol no more? I vividly remember one night dd had a bad cold and I couldn't put her down. Dh was away and I was trying to open a capsule to put some drops in a bowl of water. I couldn't find a scissors to snip it so in my sleep deprived haze I decided to bite the tip off. not envy.

But yep everyone's right, sadly no more. They were as much part of my own childhood as Lucozade!

I found some on US Amazon and have ordered them but not holding out much hope as they're branded as Karvol Plus and are green instead of orange. Fingers crossed though! I'll come back and update if they're the real deal.

Ahhhh i can almost smell Karvol now. Brings back memories. I need to know if the klear-vol smells the same!

I have one karvol tablet left that I've had for about 20 years that I can't bring myself to use knowing it's the last one

I use drops of eucalyptus and peppermint oil in a bowl of hot water or on a muslin and it smells the same and does the job.

Georgie - I did the same, no idea where it is now, it's probably desiccated in a drawer somewhere

You need menthol crystals. Really cheap you put some in warm water (just don't get muddled with crystal meth 🤣)

Hi guys, am so with you with not being able to open that last one, I wouldn't be able to either! Reminds me of a chocolate I saved of my Gramp's when we lost him 22 years back, my daughter decided to open and have a nibble a few months back, needless to say it was spat over the floor instead! 😆

Anyway, I digress. My package finally arrived from America, took so long I'd forgotten what it even was. But was my desperate purchase of Karvol+ Capsules. Luckily I wasn't holding out too much hope as although same brand and same shape, that '+' and the fact that they were green and not orange stopped me getting too excited. They are foul, nothing like originals at all, piney, toilety smell. Even my toddler disapproves and she can hardly smell a thing still.

So if you're like me and desperately looking for Karvol Capsules don't waste your money on the Karvol+ ones as no similarity at all sadly.

But how excited we got in the search eh!

We use the Klearvol capsules, and to my memory they smell almost the same as Karvol used to. Used to love it when my mum would decide my nose was blocked enough for a Karvol!

We have klearvol and they smell the same to me (granted the memory is old). They also work so we're happy.

I think they disappeared about 9-10 years ago. I remember searching lots of shops and eventually asked the pharmacist in Sainsburys. She said the company had stopped trading and they only made karvol. She said it was really sad as there wasn’t anything comparable. They quietly stopped trading.

I have half a packet in the bathroom cabinet. I used one ancient one and the smell had gone weird. I need to throw the packet out really. But I keep hoping the smell will still be there.

Ah Dobby such a shame that! Reminds me of perfume, every time I fall in love with one it ends up discontinued. Same with automatic air freshener refills. Must be me jinxing things. Thanks both for Klearvol recs, I'd read that they were piney too but will give them a try maybe. Comes to something when the smell of something trumps whether it works or not.
