Cradle cap in 10 yr old?

Has anyone else's child had cradle cap as an older child? I thought it was something just babies got, and my dd did have it as a baby as well. She's 10 and started puberty, her hair is getting very oily and ideally I'd like to wash it every other day, but she has sensory issues and it's a fight to get her to let me, plus she has waist length hair that's thick so it takes forever to wash, brush, dry, brush again. Can cradle cap be caused by not washing hair enough? At least I think it's cradle cap, small patches of a build up of dry flaky but oily skin that's off white / slightly yellow and she's finding it really itchy. It seems to have appeared quite suddenly Confused

Try Tgel, OP.

DD is 11 and has very flaky scalp/cradle cap type issues also with the oily hormonal hair. (Also super long)

Tgel stopped the itchy/flaky bit in a couple of washes. We wash twice a week, and are starting to alternate - one tgel, one normal shampoo.

It's helped lots with the spots she was getting a long her hairline as well.

I posted on here about this a month or so ago, my 9 year old has it I've been to the chemist and they advised putting on olive oil at least twice a week so trying that and it seems to help the flaky skin does come off. She's having a good hair cut on Saturday so don't know if that will help, she's got got very thick curly hair and it's been a nightmare looking after it in lockdown so wonder if that's effected the cradle cap

DS is 10 & has this - super thick hair not greasy. T gel or a drop of poly tar in normal shampoo.

ChekhovsWorkshoppedShooter · 29/04/2021 19:39

DS had that up to the age of 8. T gel is the answer.

My 8 year old has suffered with what I thought was cradle cap but spoke to my health visitor and she said it is called seborrheic dermatitis I got a shampoo from the chemist called capasal therapeutic shampoo I out it on her twice maybe 3 times a month and it really helps clear it up..

Cradle cap is seborrheic dermatitis. In babies it is believed to be caused by overactive glands whilst they're so new. Unfortunately it can then reappear with hormones at puberty!

It's really common @Violet9 and caused by the surge in hormones related to puberty. My daughter was the same and also had waist length thick hair at the time. I can't remember what we did to help - it was a few years back now. If not already doing so it is now time to start using more adult type shampoo for washing hair. Also do you double shampoo? It's worth trying if you aren't already and should help with eeking out the time between washes.
