DD 7 weeks has a cold - Dr?

DS is 7 weeks old and his big sisters have colds.

He's now caught it and has a bit of a temp, a sore throat, cough and runny nose.

He's still feeding at the moment thank goodness but he's struggling to sleep with it.

As he's so little do I need to see a Doctor?

I can't give him Calpol and I doubt he'd take it anyway as he's EBF.

Anyone else had this? What did you do? How did they handle their first cold at this age?

My girls were 4/5 months when they got their first colds so this is a new territory.

Obviously if you're concerned, by all means seek advice...but IMO there is absolutely no reason to see the doc. There is nothing they can do. My DD was born in December, then developed a perma-cold from about 10 days old for about 3 months Smile

I used an aspirator to suck out snot. I did buys warm mist humidifier to help with sleep, but it's expensive.

Well, cough & temperature are possible covid symptoms so you should be isolating. Do the older dc have symptoms too?

I’d keep an eye on him, particularly breathing, but if he’s ok in himself then you don’t need a GP at the moment.

Every baby under 12 weeks of age with a temperature must see a doctor immediately. Please take them to be seen ASAP.

My LO had a cold at 6 weeks but coped ok with it, no high temp just snotty / more unsettled.

If your LO has a temperature higher than 38 please call the doctor, if you can’t get through to them ring 111 but be aware they might send you to a&e as a precaution due to babies age

BordersRUs · 29/04/2021 12:45

Yes, with a fever at that age he needs seen, please take him ASAP.

My six week old got a bit of a cold and a temp. It was enteroviral meningitis. Take your child to the GP

Yummymummy2020 · 29/04/2021 13:11

Unfortunately I think all babies with a temp that young need to be seen, that’s what we were told anyway!!! They are very vulnerable so better to be safe than sorry.
