Constant runny nose!!

My son has had a runny nose for about 8 weeks now. It started with tonsillitis and he had a course of antibiotics, he cleared up for about 2 days and then since then has had a constant runny nose? His poor nose and cheeks are bright red from the constant wiping. I apply Vaseline to help but just feel so sorry for him it must be so uncomfortable and annoying.

It's mostly clear but has turned green over the past week. The doctor recommended antibiotics to make sure it wasn't bacterial however he's had the full course and still seems to be in the same state.

I know that a lot of viruses can't be cleared with antibiotics but just looking for some advice.

Know this is a tricky one but if anyone has had the same, it would be reassuring to know he's not the only one.

When DS was 6 years old, he had a similar problem. His adenoids were removed and he was fine again. More recently, aged 13, he had a stuffy nose for half a year and was diagnosed with Chronic Sinusitis. He was successfully treated with a topical nasal steroid. Betnesol drops 2-3 drops 2x daily for 3 weeks and then, once his nose felt clear, he changed to Nasonex spray for one month. He didn't need antibiotics, although they would have been prescribed if the above treatment had failed.
DD also has also has a runny nose for a few weeks now but hers is due to hay fever.

Thank you for replying.

Sounds like your DS has had a rough time. It just seems to me that my son constantly has a runny nose, not just an occasional wipe it's literally every 2 minutes I'm having to wipe his nose as it's streaming. I did wonder about hay fever as my husband suffers terribly and has prescription meds he has to take a month or so before spring. I did try DS with piriton which made him loopy and rather upsetting, I since have tried the boots own version but it doesn't appear to do a lot.

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for him to be seen regarding his adenoids?

I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I took DS to a private ENT consultant, so there was no waiting. The consultant took a conservative approach but after a few months he decided the adenoids had to come out and DS also had grommets fitted at the same time.
Hope all goes well with your little one and you are able to find a solution soon.
