Croup for 4 weeks?

Hi all,
After some advice. Sorry its going to be a long one!

My dd was diagnosed with croup the end of of march given steroids and sent home.

over Easter weekend she was very poorly with it and ended up In hospital and had more steroids and some oxygen, her obs were back to normal at 3am so they sent her home, again with more steroids.
On Easter Monday she was still quite bad coughing, wheezing, general breathlessness throughout the day as well as the night so took her to the OOH GP who said she has a chest infection and could hear crackles on the right lung. She was given antibiotics and again more steroids (a weeks worth this time, the other times were 2days each time)

She finished the course of antibiotics and was OK in herself and the cough went away, but has remained breathless through out it all, even in the day. So I took her to the gp, who listened to her chest again and said its clear. So we just plodded along.

Last Thursday she was poorly at nursery, again coughing vomiting and of her food noisy breathing and just not herself. so went back to the gp, she was coughing again but not as much, and I dint think it sounded like croup this time but I'm not a doc! The gp checked her over, and said its croup again! And gave her yet more steroids 3 days worth this time.

So she has had the steroids and was okay yesterday and all of today, but this evening has started coughing again. It seems like as soon as the steroids are out of her system it all starts up again.

Can croup really last this long its been nearly 4 weeks. Is there something else they can give her to help apart from steroids?

Just to add I have done all the tricks to help ease it cold air, steamy room, plow under mattress etc etc ..

If you have made it this far, thanks for reading! X
