My daughter had a small amount of browny/red discharge intermittently for about a year before her periods started

Mumof1andacat · 06/04/2021 00:06

My 1st was light but after that straight in to 'normal'

Kanaloa · 06/04/2021 00:24

I think there’s a wide spectrum in what can be normal - I don’t think a light period is anything to worry about though.

My DD had a little bit of brown blood for a few days, a few months back (really minimal amount) and I thought that’s it started - but nothing since so I assume it’s a bit hit and miss. My DD most 13 though.

Eldest DD (13) started nearly two months ago but has only had the one. Still waiting for a follow up. Seems it was manageable. I guess kind of light. DD is also autistic.

Thanks! I think it is her first period, just trying to work out if it is. I guess could be a little irregular and random for a while.

First signs of developments were age 6 - referred for investigations and it was written off as early breast development. She has this past year or two, clearly been pubescent, with lots of hair growth, sweating more, spots, oily hair.

Gosh 9 seems really young!

Between 8-14 is "normal" 12 is the average.
Info on nhs about what to expect and how to talk about it with them but appreciate may be different with autism, I guess you are best placed to know the best way to talk it all through with her as an individual.

Good luck. I remember my dad bought me a nice gift basket when I first had one with chocolate, a hot water bottle, different options for sanitary products, a blanket and a leaflet he got from a pharmacy (I think he found it hard as a single parent to talk about it out of the blue but was very good if I had any questions).
