Chickenpox spots but not spreading

DS’s nursery have reported a chickenpox outbreak so I’m on high alert

DS (2.5 years) has developed some spots all over his torso (front and back) and a few on his bottom

They appeared over Saturday afternoon but haven’t got much worse since - not really multiplying at the rate the internet says they should and no blisters yet. He’s mildly itchy but he has eczema so it’s difficult to differentiate the two

If it’s not chicken pox what could it be? Or do mild cases develop like this?

It could be a mild case, or it could be a slow burner. DS had CP when he was 3.5. He had 4 spots on his shoulder blade on the Tuesday morning. Then nothing happened, until the Saturday night when they popped out so fast you see them multiplying, horror movie style.

Not uncommon to have a slow developing case.

He’s becoming more itchy now and there’s more little pin prick rash spots

It’s not what i expected it to look like at all

I've got 4 grown up kids. All had chickenpox, varied from one being covered head to toe, down his ears, between his toes, on his genitals. One had about six spots. The other two were in the middle.

It varies.

Me again....

So it flared up and by yesterday bedtime I thought, yes this is definitely chickenpox

He’s woken up this morning and it’s gone right down. No where near as red and not obviously chickenpox again

I’m baffled!

These things don't always follow the text book. The main thing is how he is, temperature, feeling sick, headache.

My DD only had a couple of spots on her chest. I wouldn't have realised it was chicken pox if her older sister wasn't completely covered in very definitely chicken pox spots at the time!

Willow4987 · 06/04/2021 10:43

@ancientgran apart from being a bit itchy and the spot/rash, he’s fine in himself

His younger brother has a few spots as well now but again not to the extent I’d expect

Doctors won’t see us unless it’s an emergency so going to try the pharmacy and see if they can advise

I’m more worried that it’s something else that needs treating. If it’s chicken pox I’m not so worried as I’ve got everything I need here to help deal with it

Can you send a photo to the doctor, my surgery does that. If it is chicken pox taking him into a pharmacy might not be a good idea, there might be vulnerable people there.
